Today, being the last day, Camille and I worked the farm shift with Marc. We started out in the old barn, rinsing dishes, and then went around to all of the farm animals. We fed the chickens, pigs, cows, goats, sheep, and llamas and mucked around everywhere. Camille and I had the chance to drive the kubota which was really fun. We switched off driving it throughout the day. We loaded it and unloaded it wherever we went and we definitely had a blast. We also fed lettuce to the cows and they enjoyed their treat. Of course, my favorite part of today was going to Reiner and mucking in the rain as well as assisting Marc in medicating and tending to the horses. Lastly, we mucked out the front pigs area and I had the chance to ride one of the pigs. It lasted about one second because he was surprised haha. Today was fun. I am very tired.
Today's work day was the last time that I will ever work at Pasado's during externship. It was really bittersweet. I absolutely love it here. It's beautiful, it rains all of the time, it's quiet and quaint, everyone who works here loves animals, there is time to enjoy working out, and living on a budget isn't so bad. i have also learned so much since i've been here. But I do miss my very comfortable bed, family, friends, the ocean, and the sun. Though, I do love the rain more than the sun most of the time. I realized that the only reason I want to leave right now is because everyone else seems to and it's hard to think positively when others aren't where you are and you aren't where they are. Plus there was a little cabin fever. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent here and will miss all if the people as well as the fantastic animals.

Today is our second to last day here at Pasado's Safe Haven in Washington. You can definitely tell that the cabin fever has settled in quite nicely and it's time to go home. It really has been an amazing experience, but with nothing to do but go on a run and eat after our shifts everyday, the fever of boredom sets in and I think it's time for some hot San Diego weather.

Today I worked in Kitty City with Amy and we did the usual routine: clean up poop, mop the floors, replace soiled bedding, wash Moo the incontinent cat, replace old water with new, wash dirty laundry, dry wet laundry, and socialize the cats. We also completely cleaned out a small house in the feral cat yard and took out the cages that were in it, replacing it with koda beds. Camille and I took a second to hang out with the friendly garden snake too. That all took a while and I worked up a healthy appetite in the process. I too my lunch and came back to Kitty City where Amy took her lunch break and left me to hangout with the cats. I washed some excess bowls and played games I wht the cats until Amy called me to help with bird beautification.
I met the girls, Amy, and Jennifer down near the Old Barn and we travelled down to the chicken areas. We powdered their mite areas after catching them and then our day was done. And all the while it was raining.
Today was fun, fast, and a great way to slowly end this trip.

Today I chose to work in Dog Town again because I enjoyed it so much yesterday. Natalia and I assisted Diane in feeding the dogs and cleaning their areas. The other girls joined us and Diane gave us some email time and then took us out to Subwayfor lunch. We went from there to a woman's trailer where we dropped off some dog and cat food. She hardly has no eyesight in one of her eyes and is losing sight in the other so she can't leave her trailer to get food. She also has trouble with break ins and doesn't want to leave her trailer. We talked with her for a while, trying to understand her story, and then left to work back at Pasado's. I assisted Diane alone when we got back and we showed another volunteer the Huskies. I said my goodbyes to Diane since today is the last day that I will ever see her and then made my way back to the intern house.

Today I worked in Dog Town with Diane. We started out with feeding each dog and then cleaning up their areas. This includes picking up any poop, cleaning up any messes like torn up blankets, replacing old water with clean water, and hosing down the outdoor area or mopping down the inside area. I also walked Lexi shortly so that she could get out for a little bit. lastly, we gave Nadia a bath to her rear. she does not have back legs and is incontinent so she needs her rear washed. Once we finished that, I took my lunch and came back to help check Rusty's blood glucose level which was really low at 69. We really want it to be at around 200 since his diabetes is so out of control. We fed him and two other dogs their mid-day meals and took Opie on a three mile walk. It felt good to get out and walk a while, all the while talking to Diane about college, careers in the animal world, her family, and other random things. Diane is pretty cool. We returned to Pasado's and took a volunteer up to the Huskies where she was introduced to them and we played a while. They are beautiful.

Today I was the only intern on the farm due to the girls presenting about Pasado's to an elementary school somewhere in Seattle. I worked the farm shift with Jennifer which included feeding the pigs, goats, sheep, llamas, cows, donkey, miniature horses, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and maybe more. We also mucked the Narn barn completely and put in new bedding. I took my lunch and I came back to help Jennifer at Reiner. We washed out feed buckets and filled them with pm and am meals for certain horses. Medicating was next where we applied medicine and treated different horses. We started with Wall-E, where we applied ointment to an infected area in his ear and guided him through neck exercises because he has arthritis. We then moved on to Onie and another horse that I forgot the name of to wash Onie's legs down and apply Vaseline to the other horse's trach. Yes there is a horse here with a trach/ stoma. It's pretty cool :P.
We quickly finished up at Reiner and headed back to the main farm so that I could assist Diane in cleaning the dog homes. I finished that, had a little chat with Diane because I have never met her before, and went back to helping Jennifer out on farm duties. She was catching chickens to rearrange where they're staying to decrease plucking and fighting. While we were trying to catch some chickens I found a dead one and was quite caught off guard. Jennifer and I bagged it up and put it in the refrigerator with the other bodies. It might sound a little morbid, but it's realty. Anyway, Jennifer explained to me about the white hens and how they die off often because they were breed to lay lots of eggs and then die off. They also came from a cruelty case which means they came to Pasado's in bad condition. After we dealt with that, we caught and moved chickens around to different areas that would suit them best. It was an eventful day. Needless to say, I'm tired.

Today we took our day off to go to the international district in Seattle where we shopped around in Asian markets and snacked our hearts out. The boba was my favorite.

Today was our day off this week. We worked on our presentation that the other girls will be presenting to an elementary school class about Pasado's. Only three of us can go and I didn't want to take away from anyone who really wanted to go so I'll be staying behind on Friday to work on the farm. We also went into town and bought groceries and boba. Nice relaxing day.

hmmmm how can I write my blog today?
Timeline? Ok let's go

7:00 am: Headed to med shed to work in Dog Town, but was told to assist in Kitty City due to the lack of tasks.
7:10 am: Arrived at Kitty City with Camille and we finished all of the tasks.
9:00 am: Split from Camille to clean dog bowls and check if the water was finally working in the med shed. Water worked.
9:30 am: Met Camille in the People Barn to check emails and work on our blogs. Dried off a little from the rain storm.
10:15 am: Went back to the intern house to eat lunch.
11:30 am: Headed back to the farm and took pictures of animals giving Camille high fives from Dana to put at the end of emails to volunteers. Successful.
1:30 pm: Returned camera to Dana and collected a job to hang up signs on doors and animal pins.
2:00 pm: Returned borrowed tape to Narn Barn, collected an egg from the chickens, and fed it to the pigs, Penelope and Snorty.
2:30: Arrived in the People Barn to post to my blog.

Since my last blog post was a hit with th roomies, I will be continuing my
Gatsby style of writing.

Returning to my duties as an intern was quite releaving and fulfilling. After spending the last three days bedridden and exhausted, working with the animals on the rescue farm seemed to cure me even further.
I started my work day at seven in the morning meeting Jennifer the leading lady at Kitty City. Madeline and I cleaned the felines filth and conducted our daily routines of the place. All four of us interns happened to finish our biddings long before our time was up. Finding ourselves in this predicament, we spent our remaining time assisting our leaders and collected eggs, socialized the animals, and cleansed other areas of the farm. After little doings we scurried back to the intern house to enjoy a hardly earned meal.

Returning from our short break, Camille and I rescued Dana's "missing" feline named Mia from the roof of the intern house. We found her, Camille in disbelief, frolicking in the small amount of moss that lives towards the corners of the roofing.
"Mia! Get down from there!" Camille yelled as Mia proceeded to gaze at us as if to say "What? Me? This is so much fun."
I immediately climbed up the white railing for the stairs leading to the front door and grasped Mia's scruff of her neck, pulling her over the roofs edge and tossing her to Camille straight below. A soft landing in her arms.
We finally proceeded, about a half of an hour late, to our duties on the farm which included water fowl beautification. Beautification includes wrangling the honking beasts, weighing them, medicating their large bodies with the chance of a bite on your hand or arm, and a quick body check before releasing. It was loud if I do say so myself.

So, let me tell you what I did today. I'm going to be very descriptive or Gatsbyish so here we go.

THE GREAT SICKNESS

Today is the third day of sickness for me. Yesterday, towards the end of the evening, I had Natalia check my forehead for a temperature. When she couldn't tell if I was warm, she called on the other girls who tested my forehead which resulted in me using a real thermometer. My temperature had risen to 100.7 and I had become enraged at the fact that my next day could involve the same effortless activities related to book reading, phone scanning, and the latter of the subjects. Madeline proceeded to converse with our Mentor, Dana, on the subject resulting in my diagnosis of the Common Cold and near seven capsules of unrecognizable substances tossed down my throat.
"Don't ask," spoke Madeline, wide eyed and almost disheveled.
"I can't help but wonder--," I started, but instantly cut off by the sharp words spewing from Madeline's cherry lipped mouth.
"Don't. Ask."
Camille and Natalia comforted me as I regained my understanding that work would be offered to me the day after tomorrow. I proceeded to shower myself, prepare for a long nights slumber, and lay under my blue stripped comforter sweating my fever and the night away.
This morning, I arose with a note crushed between the door and the door-frame addressed to me. It was signed by all three girls
Morganne,
We did not wish to wake you so we left quietly this morning. We hope that you are doing well. If you are ready and able to join us at work, meet us down at the farm and you shall be assigned duties. If you are feeling the latter, consume the medicine layed out so tastefully on your bedside table.
- Camille, Natalia, and Madeline
I placed the note down at the foot of my bed on top of my blue striped comforter and assessed my options. Am I feeling well enough? I asked myself.
I eventually came upon the descision that my body still required this last day of rest, hoping that tomorrow I can feel fantastic and work as just. And then there was the decision on how to occupy my time that I so badly wished could be burned.
I read almost all of The Great Gatsby which surely has become one of my most favored and celebrated books that my eyes have ever witnessed and mentally consumed. In between reading and phone scanning, I finished laundry that should have already been finished, prepared and consumed my meals, and scrubbed dishes to he cleanliness they deserve. And all the while coughing and sneezing like there was no other time in my history to do so. What wasted time I have spent lazing around with this illness.
