Today, we went to Seattle. It was so interesting! We went to Pike's Place, which is, apparently, a very touristy place. Everything was REALLY expensive. We spent a lot of time looking for food. I ended up having a salmon sandwich which was sooooo tasty. I liked walking around and just looking through little shops and stands. We even visited the gum wall!!!

Today, it was our first day off. However, Camille and I were interested in visiting the Spay Station. The Spay Station is a mobile spay/neuter truck. We were picked up at 5:15 am and headed off to the site. First, we waited outside the van to greet any people who wanted their dogs or cats neutered/spayed. Then, we went inside and helped with the prepping of the animals. I had the opportunity to see a dog get neutered, a cat spayed, and a cat abortion. There is a really cool protocol for feral cats. They use TNR (trap, neuter, return), they then cut off a tip of an ear to let others know that the cat has had the operation.

Today Madeline and I went to Kitty City. We had to clean the counters, clean the litter boxes, sweep, mop, change blankets, and cuddle the kitties! We had to follow the procedure four different times because the cats are separated between healthy, AIDS, Herpes, and feral. It was interesting, but I definitely think I prefer working with dogs.

Today Madeline and I worked with dogs again. We helped feed the dogs, then we went to their houses and cleaned the floors, mopped, cleaned their poop, and changed their blankets. I especially like to visit the two Huskies on sight. They are so beautiful and look like wolves, they are big five year olds and not trained, but they are the sweetest things!!! It's sad to hear them cry when we leave their house:( Before lunch, we visited the horse farm and shoveled up all their poop. Is it weird to say that it was fun? After lunch Madeline and I helped shovel mulch into a truck and then put it in buckets and lined the floor of the dog kennel that was finished yesterday. We then compacted it and helped clean and install their beds. The weather here in Washington is unpredictable! They have a saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes." This seems very appropriate, because within an hour we had sun, rain, wind, hail, and even thunder. I really like working here and being able to see a finished product and hear everyone's appreciation at our work. I'm so grateful that our school has allowed us to have this experience as a part of our Senior Project.

Today we were put into groups of two, either working with the dogs or the cats. I chose to work with the dogs. Diane is the food specialist, so we watched her make each dog's food. It was very specific because each dog is on a different medication. We then carried supplies from the storage barn to remodel a dog kennel for incontinent dogs. Afterwards, we helped build a shed for 3 dogs. Madeline worked really hard on doing the construction work and put in a couple extra hours to ensure that the dogs could be moved in the same day. I then helped Jennifer, the bird specialist, rake rocks out of the path for a turkey with a staff infection on his foot. The sharp rocks hurt his foot so we laid down black rubber. The turkey's name is Eagle and his girlfriend's name is Patty. Eagle kept trying to intimidate me by puffing up his feathers, at some point he even cornered me. Later I went on a run with Morganne. Washington is so beautiful! The end! Ill write tomorrow.

Today was our first day arriving at Pasados. We took an early flight and were super excited to finally make our journey to what we've been planning since last year. We arrived in Seattle and made a scenic drive to Pasados. We had an extremely warm welcome. They even had gift baskets for us! We then went to the store to buy food supplies, and after that, we met the staff. We settled in, took a tour of the farm and got used to our new living arrangements. Then we took some dogs to the river in Sultan and went on a hike. Our first meal that we made was very good, and we went to sleep very tired. I am very excited for my first real day at work tomorrow!!!

My name is Natalia Perez . I am going to be interning at Pasado's Safe Haven in Washington from May 11 to May 29. I am excited to be working with rescued animals. I don't know exactly what our jobs will be yet, but I'm up for anything!
