Today each one of us was assigned to a different position, dogs, cats and farm. Today Morganne is sick so I took over for her today. I went to Kitty City and it was very mellow, I spend most of my day with Heidi, the cat lead, cleaning and playing with the cats. Everyday, whether you go into Kitty City, or if you're on dogs it is the same schedule every time. You get into a routine, but sometimes it is nice to do something new. Hopefully after tomorrow I will be able to do farm. Today we also prepared 3 cats going to an adoption clinic to see if maybe they can get adopted. One cat is 20 pounds, his target weight, he used to be 45 pounds when his owners left him with bags full of food for a couple of months and wasn't taken care of. He is super sweet, and along with the other two cats will hopefully be getting adopted today. Also, there were two cats that were left at Pasado's, their names are Maddie and Nat. Sounds familiar?
Tomorrow I will be working cats again! Maybe we will go into town today or tomorrow night. Write soon!

Today was our Monday so it was hard to wake up this morning. Nat and I went to our dog shift until 10. Feeding and cleaning the dogs along with their kennels. There is a lot of movement happening with the different dogs because they are building/renovating an older ISO so some of the dogs can live there.
There is a huge piece of land about 30 minutes away called Camp Charlie, it is a dog park. So there are different areas that are blocked off, 3 acres of grassy fields for them to run around on. We got together 8 dogs, loaded them into the Am-mooo-lance and drove off. The hardest part of the whole adventure was getting the dogs into the moving van, into the kennels, and then the drive there. I was sitting in the back. This didn't make me feel so good. At one point Lexi, a 65 pound lap dog was sitting on me for the remainder of the ride. Camp Charlie is so beautiful, it was raining all day which wasn't what we wanted but it was fun anyways. All of the dogs had a great time for a couple of hours and then we headed back to Pasado's.
After we unloaded all of the dogs, cleaned the kennels, and did the laundry I was so tired. It still continued to rain so we walked around petting the animals and just enjoying ourselves before we went back to the intern house. I will be passing out soon but tomorrow Nat and I are going to be doing dogs again and hopefully the next day I will be assigned to farm!

Lexi decided to lay on me. She's heavy.

Today was our second day off. Although we said we were going to go to work we decided not to and we went to Seattle. After an hour and a half we were there, and once we figured out the very confusing downtown parking we were ready to go to Pike's Place Market. This is where they throw fish and they have a famous view. It was so beautiful there and it had the most perfect weather. We walked all around the shops and searched for hours for a restaurant we all could agree on. We ended up eating some fish that was very good. It was a very fun day but tiring and long. We got to see the gum wall also, and even contributed a piece of our own gum. The drive back made us all more tired and I think it will be an early night for all of us. Have a great rest of your day!

Today was our first day off. Nat and Camille decided to go to a spade and neuter center that is sponcered by Pasados. Morganne and I slept in and then took the car to go shopping! We went to a couple of stores and then were back home by noon. I ate a quick lunch and then went for another shift. I helped Dana make signs for the chickens and roosters. There are a lot of chickens. A LOT. And when I say all chickens look the same. They do. And when you have to go around the multiple chicken houses finding out who is who by using simple definitions like, the tan one or different feathers. It was interesting. I then made charts after I figured who everyone was and hung them up. This took quite a while. I then went to the intern house and ate dinner. We bought some movies today so I think we are going to watch those tonight. Have a great night!

This is one of the three boards that I made that will go in each chicken coop.

Today we decided to switch things up so Nat and I went to Kitty City! There are three rooms, the main room which has the healthy cats in it. Then there are two smaller rooms, one is where the cats with kitty Herpes live, and the other one is where the cats with kitty AIDS live. They are not allowed to interact because they will infect the other cats. We cleaned the floors, change the water and the sheets, did the laundry but most importantly played with the cats. Kitty City is a lot calmer then working with the dogs but I think I like the upbeat activity rather then just chilling and laying around. After Kitty City we went to go feed the ducks and the geese and also interacted with the llamas. Later we will be going to the store hopefully go to see the horses!
Make sure to check out everyone's blogs! We all post different pictures and do different things everyday!

Today started off as another early morning. Woke up and went straight to work. Dogs again today and we were already farmilar with the schedule. Feeding each dog first. Going in, spending time with them. Then we do another check and do a poop clean up along with changing the towels, sweeping and mopping. We also had an opportunity to go down and visit the horses. There are 6 horses so Nat and I spent the whole time shoveling poop. We filled a whole barrel with poop it was pretty gnarly. We then had lunch. After that it was raining very hard and started hailing at one point. Nat and I finished the new dog kennel I was talking about yesterday. We put in three dog igloos while raining. It was very difficult to do. We closed up shop and then went to the storage barn to look for some boots. Still raining we took a walk and then went back to the intern house. It was a very long day. Tomorrow Nat and I will be working in cats! Here are some pictures!

Below you can see a picture of the storage barn. Then a picture of the three dog igloos in their new kennel. And at the end Nat putting the blankets into the dog igloos.

Today we woke up at 6 o'clock and were ready by 7 for our first shift! Nat and I were assigned to the dogs and Camille and Morganne went to the cats. Nat and I started off with Diane and got every dogs food prepared. A lot of dogs need special medicine or different types of food, dry or canned food. We then went into each kennel and met every dog. They all have their own personalities and it's super fun g to be around them!! After feeding time I got to work with Clay and we were carpenters for the day. There is a new kennel that they are making so they can move two dogs, Fivel and Chuck, into a new area. We spent all afternoon going to get the wood and making a shelf that they can jump on. It also works as an area that they can sleep under. It took a very long time! I worked a 12 hour shift today!! Tomorrow Nat and I will be working with the dogs again and then we will be switching to cats or to farm animals.

Oh I forgot to mention my favorite animals so far. Michelle, she's a grey llama, her main goal in life is to spit in your face. In order to get to the pigs you have to walk through the llama area and she follows you. Trying every way possible to make eye contact with you so she can spit in your face. It is the funniest thing ever. So every time someone goes into her area we have to watch out for Michelle.

Socrates is a goat. He is like a little old man. He is in the area with the ponies. Nat and I fell in love with this old man when he baaaahhhhed. It is so funny. And now that I'm writing this it doesn't sound as funny but it is. He sounds so funny and now that is our inside joke with Socrates.

That's it for now. Ill talk about more animals tomorrow and talk about my day!! Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! I'm super tired! Good night!

Today at 6:30 all four of us were on an airplane flying to Washington. We got picked up from the airport by a volunteer and it was about an hour and a half drive from Seattle to Sultan. We spent the first hour getting settled in and then went into town to the grocery store. Once we got back we got a tour of the property and met all sorts of animals. The dogs are very friendly and same with the cats. There are llamas, chickens, roosters, cows, pigs, donkeys, geese etc. It is so beautiful here! Everyone is so welcoming and really supportive of us being here. We haven't started any real work today but we will tomorrow. Our first shift starts tomorrow at 7 o'clock. Nat and I are going to be working with dogs tomorrow!!!

Hi my name is Madeline and I am a senior at High Tech High International. For the next three weeks for externship all 4 of us will be going to Pasado's Safe Haven in Sultan Washington. It is a shelter and a home for many animals. Each one of us are going to be focusing on different areas and different animal interest groups.

I am super excited about learning all about how these people live and how the whole process of a farm works. I will be blogging on the first day and will be taking pictures to keep everyone filled in on what we are doing!

As a mentor Dana will be telling us everything that she does, and also will be helping us adjust to everything that we will be doing. We will get to know and learn about the paperwork side of the farm and getting down and dirty.

I am so excited for this experience!
Ill write soon!
